@FAKE playful like circus lions prancing on trainer..too much reverting back to family in car by camera man..in real situation camera would have never left victims demise to focus on crying baby..someone would have been smart enough to use vehicles to run off lions..the filming of the lion picking up the camera at the end was a dead give away for fakeness. must be a NIKON plug hehehe

@this has got to be real why would the people be crying like that and why is the man bleeding?plus the male lion stepped in and who would thake 3 or 4 lions out into somewhwere in affrica just so this trainer can pretend to be eaten. and last is this stuff was all over the news.

@Fake, Pit Durnet is an actor and the video was produced in 1974 by Antonio Climati.
Do a google and you will see. But,,, there are real cases, but those don't get filmed for obvious reasons.

Are you joking? - or do you actually have an extreme mental retardation?
Before you go around making false intelligence-lacking statements how about you actually research for yourself. He DID die, he WASN'T acting, jeez.

I tend to agree with anonymous on some points, but Phil, I have to say that the man is a TOTAL IDIOT and deserved what he got. This goes way beyond natural selection. I work with people who often think they are superhuman, and I go to great lengths to prevent them from doing the same thing. Tourists must realise that wild animals are wild, and not tame.
1) The lion attack seems to be very tame initially, and I expected a much quicker bite to the neck, unless the lions wanted to first play with the new toy...but there are some very realistic touches:
- The victim has wet his pants and has what appears to be urine running down both legs.
- The lions actually do compete for the kill by chasing each other away in a setup thsi would probably not be the case, although I do know of a place in South Africa called Tshukudu Lodge near Hoedspruit which at one stage was well known for providing 'tame animals' for movies, and the bush there looks real enough...
2) I thought the focus on the family was also a bit dramatic. In a true attack, the video would in most likelyhood have focussed only on the kill unless the person filming it had enough presence of mind and experience to think about the human factors surrounding the main theme, while working under stress. This seems unlikely, as the quality of the recording and control of the camera is not compatible with such professional behaviour.
3) I fail to understand why nobody used a car to drive off the lions, as this to me would be the most natural response in such a case. The most realistic part of the human factor in the video, besides crying babies and howling families is the bearded man telling everyone to get back into their cars. I have in fact done this myself to IDIOTS in rental cars that share this lack of understanding of the true nature of wild animals.
I hope that this video is a staged video created by someone with a bit of initiative and much experience to send the message out to all the IDIOTS out there, that the human being deprived of his force multipliers is no match for a wild animal.

@This is Real. Its sad for the family, but also sad that some think its fake. Pit Durnet was an actor who died in Nimibia in 1975, lions ate him.

@it is not fake.... no one play with lions like that, a trainer can act a lion atack with one lion not with 4 or 5 because for all the stress and in an open area anithing culd hapend.
-You can see the lions fighting between each other to eat him.
-The first lion atacking him did realy bite him, you can see he is trying to realise his arm.
-What dosent convince me is a) the initial atack. it dosent have power, is soft and smooth.
-Why people didnt drive into the atack
-but i do belive there are stupid people that can do that and bad people like the camara man that dosent do anithing.but camara man can be a women or a litle kid
(sorry because of the writing english is not my language)
Lmao. While it may be more fun to actually think this is real, it most certainly is not. It was a clever hoax made back in the seventies folks. It's done fairly well so I can see how some people are fooled but it's completely staged.

@fake fake fake. can you not see the edit points? can you not see how the head and neck of the 'victim' suddenly become rigid following a cutaway? if you'd just had your throat torn out by a large cat do you think it would not perhaps move with some degree of independence? Instead of looking... oh yeah like a fake corpse. Which it is. Get some common sense and open your bloody eyes.
he was not eaten

@I can't believe you morons. Lying, saying real/fake, claiming to be lion experts. THe bottom line is that this was an Italian film and this was an actor staging an attack. Seriously, look it up. Use that...what do you call it, "internet" that you're on. F-ing idiots.

@It would appear that Wiki does nothing to refute Pit being an actor. In fact, if anything, it points more toward his death being real - not staged - as it was the basis of a *staged* death with bears in a later film. IMDB has his date of death as 1975 - by lions. I'm still on the fence.

@he did die, did anyone read the whole article on wiki.. it was a documentary but he did actually die, the scene is usually cut out because of the "genuine human death"...
